How to improve an already great product?
Well leave it to Jan Didden. His passive DCX2496 upgrade was already impressive. So you can imagine that we were pleasantly surprised as Jan announced that he had designed a new board which incorporated a six-channel volume control solution. We were absolutly impressed as Jan showed us the working product and demonstrated the true potential of his upgraded DCX2496.

We feel proud that we can offer a new kit in our DIY section consisting of three PCB's and all the parts needed to make your own drop-in upgrade. This kit comes with a pre-programmed micro controller giving the full functionality as descibed in the spec sheet.

A few remarks have to be made. This kit is not difficult to built. If you have reasonable soldering skills and are willing to work accurately, you will have no problems to complete it. And of course your reward will be a professional addition to your DCX giving it high-end sound!

This kit is intended for the 'old' DCX, the one with the PMCIAA slot. The new 'Lite' version does not have this slot. The PMCIAA slot makes way for the kit's display unit. If you have a 'new' DCX you still can use this kit, but an extra housing for this display unit is needed with some extra flatband cable. In case of any question please contact us.

The level chip, the CS3318, is a flat pack surface mount with a 0.5mm (about 1/50 inch) pitch. Soldering that would be beyond most home constructors. Therefore we put it on the board for you.

Of course besides all the parts needed it comes with the printed versions of the documentation made available by Jan.

Another remark has to be made about the micro controller. It comes preprogrammed and is copy-protected. This protection is rather strict. An atempt to read the code will erase the device... So restrain yourself and please enjoy the music with this upgrade.
